TAPA # 241 AMERICA’S king Learie

King Lear is a tragic play by William Shakespear about an aging British monarch whose pride and poor judgment lead to the destruction of his family and kingdom. While the details of King Lear do not exactly comport with our wannabe king Learie’s, the impact and outcome are very similar.

Just as Lear mistakes flattery for love and honesty for disloyalty so has Learie. Learie has been duped by many of the autocrats using flattery, writing ‘love letters’. Learie chose a cabinet of sycophants who continuously flatter him, enabling his unhinged decisions disconnected to reality, but ones that Learie’s dementia represents as reality to him.

When the kingdom disintegrates King Lear begins to lose his sanity as he wanders the countryside. Our wannabe king, Learie, wanders the countryside insulting and accusing those who disagree with him as traitors, and treasonous. Learie’s Secretary of Defense, an incompetent flattery sycophant, on Learie’s orders, has threatened to prosecute a 25-year, retired Navy Captain, who was a fighter pilot in active combat and an astronaut when he said members of the military must always support the Constitution and not obey illegal orders! Learie wandered into a midterm convention rambling on about accomplishments he has never achieved. Just as his reflecting pool no longer reflects, king Learie has lost his mojo, because the people now know who and what he really is and what he has done to harm America.

In Shakespeare’s play King Lear dies realizing that flattery is not love and honesty is not disloyalty. Unfortunately, our king Learie is incapable of learning what honesty and loyalty is, because intrinsically he is incapable of comprehending either or both.

Unlike Shakespeare’s Britain, America does not have to wait for a king’s tragedy to run its course. We have elections through which citizens can decide who should exercise political power. Americans need to vote king Learie’s MAGA court out!
