“A whole civilization will die tonight.” That is what our president, the supposed leader of the “free world,” posted today. I do not believe the U.S. military will carry out such an inhumane and criminal action. But the very fact that the president would publicly signal indifference to war crimes should set off a five-alarm warning for Americans: we have an unhinged egomaniac in the White House.

Trump appears determined to drive America’s integrity, reputation, and economy into infamy, just as he has done with so much of his personal and business life. What makes this descent into immorality and potential national criminality even worse is the conspiratorial complicity of Republican members of the House and Senate. By failing to stop Trump’s domestic and international rogue behavior, they have made themselves partners in this disastrous course. The blood of every child, noncombatant, and service member who dies in Trump’s war of choice will be on Republican hands.

The statement evokes the language of history’s darkest crimes. The difference is that even the Nazis did not publicly broadcast the full depravity of their intentions in such blunt terms. When one reads or hears Trump’s maniacal and evil ramblings, how can anyone doubt the depth of his moral corruption or the predatory Epstein claims? Sadism, hedonism, and cruelty seep from him, accompanied by the stench of self-indulgence and rot. Trump is incapable of empathy.

Imagine the terror of families in Iran tonight: the panic of mothers and fathers fearing for their children. Trump does not care, and neither, it seems, do his Republican co-conspirators.

Whether he attacks or TACOs, the terror will have taken its toll.
