Trump’s latest post, “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!… Open the …Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell — JUST WATCH. Praise be to Allah”, should be disqualifying. It speaks for itself.

He has vacillated, more accurately, meandered, from one justification to another for the Iranian assault. His 45-minute Easter luncheon screed was a cascade of claims detached from reality. His habitual phrases, “everybody says” and “like the world has never seen”, paired with constant self-aggrandizement, reflect a pattern of egomaniacal behavior a marquee of his malignant narcissism.

Taken together, these elements raise serious questions about fitness for office and point toward the rationale underlying the 25th Amendment. This is not said lightly, particularly given the consequences of succession. Yet while Vance may be cunning and morally labile, he does not present as similarly unstable.

Equally troubling is the systematic removal of principled military leadership. Experienced officers, loyal to the Constitution, are being dismissed when they act on that loyalty. Hegseth’s lacky conduct further erodes confidence in the integrity of military leadership. The warnings issued by six elected officials about obeying unlawful orders were not abstract. They were grounded in a real concern. Efforts to weaponize the Department of Justice against perceived opponents only reinforce the sense of a “clear and present danger” to democratic norms.

It is time for Congress to reclaim both its authority and its integrity. The central failure of leadership now rests with an unstable Trump, but with the Republican majority that enables him. This accelerating slide toward lawlessness, at home and abroad, will persist unless Congress fulfills its constitutional obligations.

America cannot afford to wait out the end of Trump’s term. Intervention must come sooner rather than later. If Republicans will not defend the rule of law, the Constitution, and basic decency before November 4, then the responsibility falls to the electorate. “We the people” must act.
