But now that we are finally seeing details from the Epstein files, and even then, not the most serious material, because the FBI apparently scrubbed documents in April before the DOJ gained access. It’s clear there is a lot to see.

What has emerged fills in a picture of extraordinary depravity and cruelty inflicted by Jeffrey Epstein and his circle on hundreds of young girls (a nine year old). It also exposes the character of those who resist the truth, either because they were involved, directly or indirectly, or because they feel compelled to protect those who were.

In the United Kingdom, individuals merely associated with Epstein have resigned from positions of authority or are under intense pressure to do so. Not so in the United States. Here, we have a Secretary of Commerce who is now known to have lied to the public about his association with Epstein, yet the president refuses to remove him from power, something any responsible leader committed to integrity would demand.

That refusal is hardly surprising. Donald Trump himself is mentioned thousands of times in these materials, far more often than his Secretary of Commerce. Trump traveled on Epstein’s plane multiple times and maintained a close relationship with him for years. This is the same president who paid a porn star and at least one other woman to keep quiet; who is a convicted felon; and who was adjudicated a sexual predator in a civil case. The Access Hollywood tape, in which Trump bragged about grabbing women by the “p***y” and ogled women in the Miss America dressing room, also speaks directly to his character.

In 2019, Trump claimed that, as president, he knew nothing about what Epstein was doing. But we now know of an FBI interview with a local police chief who reported that in 2006 Trump personally called him to say that “everybody knows what Epstein is doing here and in New York,” and that Ghislaine Maxwell was “evil” and should be the focus of investigation.

So how could he know then and claim ignorance now?

And how much more remains hidden behind redactions that the public has yet to see?
