TAPA # 157 NUREMBERG TWO

• 1984: The government rewrites reality, invents enemies, and uses propaganda to justify torture, disappearance, and execution.
• The Trial: A man is arrested and prosecuted by a faceless legal system in which guilt is assumed.
• Darkness at Noon: Based on Stalin’s purges, where victims are coerced into confessing to invented crimes.
• Fahrenheit 451: The state suppresses dissent by destroying books, justifying violence as necessary for “happiness” and “order.”
• Brazil: A dark satire of bureaucratic authoritarianism in which innocent people are arrested, tortured, or killed due to clerical errors—then retroactively justified.
• V for Vendetta: A government manufactures crises to justify executions and detention camps.
• The Lives of Others: East Germany’s Stasi uses intimidation and false charges to bureaucratically—and “legally”—ruin lives.
• Children of Men: Immigrants are caged, brutalized, and killed under emergency laws that normalize atrocity.
• The Handmaid’s Tale: Religious propaganda is used to justify executions and mass imprisonment, as the state reframes brutality as “moral order.”

All of these once-defining bestsellers are now eclipsed.

Coming soon to every election district, especially those labeled “blue”, is the Trumpian MINNESOTA FREEZE: an almost unbelievable, titillating morphing of the FBI from a stodgy, rules-based enforcement agency into a grotesque hybrid of the Gestapo, Stasi, Storm Troopers, and KGB, while the Department of Justice delivers an iconic portrayal of Orwell’s 1984 “Ministry of Truth.”

The cold reality is brought to the screen through ICE officers who deftly inflict fear and physical harm while mimicking the posture and language of justice. It is a ‘tour de force’ of bait-and-switch as the DOJ swivels, like a disconnected scarecrow’s head on a shaft, deflecting the killing of an unarmed mother of three, shot in her car by a federal agent, into a manufactured dragnet allegedly designed to defend “God-fearing people” from seditious local officials who dare object to the federal killing of one of their neighbors.

While the authors reach for hot air, they shrewdly exploit their positions to club and condemn the victims while canonizing the perpetrators.

A marvelous work of fiction.

MINNESOTA FREEZE will undoubtedly demand, by public outcry, a sequel. Some say it will be NUREMBERG TWO. Draft scripts already focus on the trial of those who implemented the Dear Leader’s demented destruction of the social order in pursuit of power, prestige, and money. It highlights the labile behavior of those elected to offices entrusted with balancing power, yet who chose silence instead, whether from fear of losing position, hunger for self-promotion, or the lust for more power.

There is already talk of a third installment, a trilogy, in which voters finally elect leaders with integrity, intelligence, and a genuine intent to serve, rather than those who merely wish to be served.

That script has yet to be written.
